The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, Abu Dhabi Offers The Chance To Savor Authentic Thai Cooking

Sontaya, the award-winning Asian restaurant at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, showcases the best of Thai cuisine with a limited-time menu of the delicious, authentic food from the mainland.

Hosted from November 11 to 16, the second leg of Taste of Southeast Asia – a culinary event hosted at Sontaya – brings Thai Chef Phukvarun Watchmon of Bangkok Marriott Marquis Queen’s Park to Abu Dhabi with a menu that represents the best of Thai culture and cuisine.

The a la carte menu delicacies, served from 6.30 PM until 11.00 PM, will feature a range of signature dishes, ranging from specialty curries and noodles to enticing appetizers, grilled dishes and desserts.

The choice of starters includes fried sea prawn, minced chicken salad, grilled red snapper, duck salad and fried seabass – all prepared with the freshest produce, using homemade marinades and cooked in the traditional method.

For mains, there is a variety of curries like ‘land and sea’ featuring sea prawn, chicken and dried fish, as well as the green short-rib prepared with beef short-ribs in green curry with turmeric, lemongrass, galangal, kaffir lime and red chili.

The southern-style seabass is cooked in yellow curry, tamarind juice, kaffir lime leaves and watermelon. For more familiar flavors, opt for the wok-fried chicken or grilled chicken skewer.

The dessert choices are as authentic as they come. Sariem is made from mung bean flour, young coconut meat, pandan leaves and coconut milk, while the Krong-Kraeng uses tapioca flour, palm sugar and white sesame.

Phukvarun Watchmon, guest chef at Sontaya, said: “My mother taught me how to use herbs and roots in cooking at a very young age as this is the base of Thai cuisine. I take pride in my menu, as it is my way of bringing our traditions to other parts of the world, and I am always happy to see people enjoying Thai dishes.”

‘Taste of Southeast Asia’ will run up until January 2020 with guest chefs from top hotels in the Far East bringing dedicated menus of the best of traditional Asian cooking to Abu Dhabi.

Sontaya, meaning sunset in Thai, is set amongst a series of floating pavilions that look out to the stunning Saadiyat beach and the Arabian Gulf. The ambiance is truly spectacular, warm and inviting which makes it a favorite for families, friends and tourists.
